I don't get it.

So E rolled out a new feature enabling each shop to rearrange their items.  I know it was a feature some people wanted, maybe even I did at one time, but I have to say 'whoopdedoo' on this one.

Have I become so jaded that nothing E does is good enough anymore?  True, one doesn't need to renew items in order to put them together on the first page of your shop anymore, and I understand that some people really want this and find it useful.  I don't.  I dont' have it yet, so maybe that's part of it, but it looks to me like how you would rearrange a treasury.  To make 'aesthetically pleasing' pages.

Maybe I'm not 'every shopper', but I rarely look at the aesthetic of the shops I buy from.  The photos do matter, but not how they are arranged in one's shop.  Categories are a good thing to have, what I really wish is that we could have thumbnails for each of our categories along with a place for a description, and those could be your front page thumbnails.  That I would find useful and be all 'thanks E for all your hard work!'.

As far as I'm concerned, this was a feature that should have been part of E since the V2 rollout.  It shouldn't have been something that people begged and pleaded for for years so that when they finally did get it they fell over themselves in gratitude.  Sheesh, it literally makes me ill to read all the gushing people do.  I guess I am jaded.

Now, how about fixing those SEO issues?

This is what I put on someone else's blog who is tired of Etsy and all the bull and leaving.

Even as a buyer I am sick of it all. Sick of every damn thing you mentioned, sick of the controversy, sick of discussing it, sick of arguing about it, just sick of it all. I don't even care if I ever go back or not. I was tired of it months before I ever left, and even made a forum post about wanting to leave then, way before I got muted. The only reason I even stayed at Etsy anyway was because of the sellers. It sure as hell wasn't the site, as I spent the majority of my time there screwing around with flash player to make all the site functions work so that I could use them. I always tried to defend admin, as I am not sure the admin in the forum can do much about a lot of things except listen to people gripe. I figured that higher ups make the bigger site wide decisions about stuff. So I figured people were complaining to the wrong people and would try to defend the forum admin. But finally I have come to the conclusion that I just don't give a crap about any of it anymore when it comes to Etsy itself, but there are still people there that I like. Handmade is nice and you meet a lot of nice people and can get some really nice stuff, but there is a lot to be said for walking into a place, seeing what you are going to buy in person, paying for it, walking out, and calling it a fricking day-minus all the bullshit that comes along with trying to buy handmade. That is just how I feel about it right now anyway.

From reading the forum this feature doesn't work the way it should either. Like most of the stuff they roll out. I am probably a happier buyer not even being on Etsy, because I can still buy from people, and say whatever the hell I want to whenever I want to and change my avatar whenever I get a wild hair up my ass to do so. Plus the seller doesn't have to pay Etsy their fee. I will just plod along like this until some one rips me off and my husband makes me stop I guess. At least it makes me think more before I buy anything and I also save a lot of money because I don't buy as much. Oddly, I don't hate Etsy though, or the people who run it, or the people who sell there, I just don't think they have a clue as to what they are doing most of the time. Their heart is in the right place but usually their head is up their ass and they can't see the forrest for the trees.

Oddly enough, I don't hate Etsy either.

I just wish I hadn't bought into the hype because I don't really fit Etsy's aesthetic, so I feel like one of the 'supporting actors', whose main function is to support the site and those they choose to advertise. Me and thousands of others, that is.

I always feel like these things are thrown out, not so much in response to those that ask for them, but rather to distract from the reality and give the illusion that Etsy does so much for us.

Meh, like I said before, I'm jaded. And I'm long past caring about their silly little features when SEO is such a mess and nothing I list on Etsy ever generates a google alert like it used to. I'm no expert, but something changed on Etsy's end and it wasn't for the better.
